This is our story 🤎

It started in 1991, with a cortadito Demetrio made at home, with a secret touch of cacao. His family loved it so much, they told him the whole city should taste it.

So in 1994, he and Vilma went looking for a home for it. They found it on Alhambra Circle: a 1926 building, once Coral Gables' first newspaper. They had never run a café, but they knew this was the place.

In 1997, the doors opened. Inside, they built the café Demetrio had always read about, an 18th-century European coffee house for poets, artists, and working people. A chess room, a piano, paintings on every wall, and a courtyard under the banyan, so no one would ever have to rush their cup.

Almost 30 years later, it's still family. Same corner, same old Italian machines. And that first cup from 1991 is still on the menu. It carries his name: the Café Demetrio.

Personal Connection
For years, Alan Greer came every Saturday to Café Demetrio with his wife, Federal Judge Patricia Seitz, and—during the General’s final five years—with his father-in-law, Lt. General Richard
Seitz. Those Saturday mornings formed part of a quiet, consistent rhythm of friendship and presence. General Richard Seitz , who was introduced to me by his daughter Judge Patricia, became my personal friend during those last five years of
the General’s life.
Professional & Civic Legacy
• More than 50 years as a trial lawyer (Richman Greer / Day Pitney).
• High-profile matters: Watergate-related defense work, representation of the Florida Democratic Party in Bush v. Gore (2000), and representation of Marjory Stoneman Douglas in the
successful effort to stop a jetport in the Everglades.
• AV Preeminent rating (highest peer recognition for legal ability and ethics).
• Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and International Society of Barristers.
• 25 years on the board of Camillus House (three as Chairman) — the organization he considered his greatest source of pride. Also served as Chair of WLRN and in other civic roles.
