GAME, SET, SNACK: What I Pack for a Day at the Office!
๐พ Inspired by one of my favoriteTennis Channel segments โ where professional tennis players show whatโs inside their tennis bags โ I thought Iโd do my own version:
๐ด Whatโs in my lunch bag for a full day at the office.
As an avid tennis fan and player, I love seeing how athletes prepare for long days on court. And as a nutritionist, I know that work days need preparation too.
For me, packing food isnโt about making perfect choices. Itโs about making sure I have enough, including foods that are satisfying, practical, and nourishing โ so Iโm not trying to make food decisions when Iโm already busy and sometimes distracted. Having the food you want to eat readily available is a game changer!
๐ธThis is real-life gentle nutrition: planned, flexible, and enjoyable.

I spent a day of Soul Nourishment :
feasting on friendship,
reveling in riots of flowers,
treasuring the playful topiaries,
and even encouraging my Inner Child to wear Mickey Mouse ears!

EAT. PAUSE. LISTEN.
We spend time planning what to eat,
but how often do we check in while weโre eating?
and I are talking about why the PAUSE is an important part of any meal.
Our bodies are always talking to us about hunger, fullness, and what we truly needโwe just have to slow down enough to hear the truth.
Save this post to remind yourself to take a "power pause" during your next meal! ๐ฉ

ALL. FOODS. FIT !
2 Amys Walk into aPizza Joint... ๐
I had lunch wiht my colleague, Amy Zogran, RD (Regional Outreach Director for Monte Nido , to discuss why pizza is actually doing more for us than we think.
The breakdown:
๐น Complex Carbs: The crust provides the primary fuel souces your brain literally craves to function.
๐น Protein: Shrimp and dairy to keep you satisfied.
๐น Veggies: Arugula and tomatoes provides micronutrients.
Food is about connection, culture and nourishment in every sense.
Because honestly?
All. Foods. Fit ๐ฉต๐

Simple advice....not always simple to do....listen to your body!
Eat when you're hungry, stop when you're full.
You're allowed to have pie for breakfast the next day ๐ฅง

So... it seems I am still obsessed with "Ratatouille" ๐ณ๐ฉต
๐ ๐ฅFOOD IS FELT BEFORE IT IS TASTED ๐ฅ ๐ฟ
๐ฅ Disneyโs Ratatouille knew โ we eat with all our senses...
the sound of crusty bread,
the sizzling in the pan,
the crunching into pickles or apples,
the popping of popcorn
the breaking of a fortune cookie
Specific sounds like a popcorn popper, soda fizzing, or a spoon hitting a ceramic bowl can evoke powerful memories, boosting your appetite through emotional association.
BUT! We need to slow down enough to notice! I know, easier said than done,
but So So worth it when you can.

LOOKS MATTER ๐... WHEN IT COMES TO FOOD!
Before we take a bite, our brains are already judging the meal.
Visual appeal can influence appetite, satisfaction, and even digestion.
Whether you're plating at home or dining out, how your food looks truly matters.
Studies show that when food is visually appealing, weโre more likely to
savor it,
feel satisfied, and
tune in to our hunger cues.
Taking a moment to present your food with care can support Intuitive Eating...

REMY'S RULE: No Rushing the Flavor ๐ญโณโ
The Pixar/Disney movie " Ratatouille" continues to deliverโ
Since taste receptors (taste buds) are in the mouth, the longer you have food there, the more taste/pleasure (or displeasure for that matter) you will experience...
versus
eating quickly and being barely aware of what you are eating.
If you barely taste the food, and its gone quickly from your mouth and taste buds, the less satisfaction there is and you may then want to eat more food to feel more satisfied.
Slower eaters often tend to eat less because they feel more satisfied with what they are eating.
Make sense?
Try it... keep some food in your mouth just a little bit longer than usual. Be open to what you might (or might not) discover.
Even Rats KnowโFood Deserves Respect ๐๐ฝ๏ธโ

That "Ratatouille" moment... but in real life. ๐ฝ๏ธโจโ๏ธ
During a mindful eating exercise with a client the other day, they mentioned the Pixar/Disney movie, "Ratatouille".
"We are eating like Remy the rat!",they said.
What if you Really paid attention to your next bite ๐ง ๐
?
From cartoon to consciousness... try eating like Remy and see, feel, taste, smell what you may discover ๐๐

โฆ me and Amy Zogran, MS,RD,LD, Montenido Regional Outreach Manager!
No really, we wanted to talk about how hard it can be for some of us to return food in a restaurant when:
๐นpart or all of it isn't prepared as you requested
๐นpart of all of it is too hot or too cold
๐นpart or all of it doesn't taste good to you
๐นpart or all of its not what you ordered
๐นpart or all of it isn't what you expected or wasn't described accurately on the menu
etc etc.
You deserve to eat what tastes good to you and not eat it when it doesn't.
ESPECIALLY when you are paying your hard earned money ๐ฒ๐ฒ for it!
